End Self-Sabotaging, Recycling Patterns, Increase Low Self-Regard

As you may already be [painfully or astutely] aware -- oftentimes we can be our own worst enemy. We often create undue unnecessary [dis]stress and dissatisfaction in our lives by constantly striving to live up to our own self-imposed and unrealistic expectations.

A great deal of the time, such untenable and unrealistic self-imposed expectations are due to our over-riding desire to "live up to" the purely external influences of our family, friends, peers or some other sort of our day-to-day social "orbs of influence".

Unfortunately far too many wimmin™ mindlessly allow such social orbs of influence to dictate what has meaning and value in our lives. Not daring to step too far outside the acceptable norms, for fear of interpersonal disapproval - of being viewed as a contentious outsider, a unconventional trouble-maker, unwominly and any host of disparaging assertions.

When we learn to pause and observe the factors which are causing such undue stress in our lives it would in time become pretty apparent just how it is that based in your continually attempting to live up to your perceptions of someone else's possible non-approving expectations of you.

And how, as a result of your own unsuccessful attempts to control or change these [real or imagined] judgmental expectations about you, you deny yourself or stifle any thought or desire live more authentically.

When the greatest part of your own day-to-day expectation or desires are  your attempts at living up to; or trying to obtain approval from other folk, then you're bound to experience undue symptoms of [dis]stress, generalized over-worry and anxiety.

Still not sure you may be causing yourself undue [dis]stress, worry and anxiety ? Well ask yourself the following about any sources of worry, [dis]stress or anxiety:

  • Where did my desire to do and continue to do this come from?
  • Did it originate with me?
  • Are these desires due to some outside orb of influence [family, mate, friends, co-workers, in-laws, etc.]?
  • Have I been living my life mainly in order to gain the approval of others at the cost of recognizing and admitting that it's not even what I wish to do?

Too often, the undue pressures we place on ourselves are a direct result of our valuing someone else’s expectations and opinions over our own; or trying to be what we believe our loved ones, family, friends, church, clubs or bosses want us to be.

Here's a few ways you can begin to makes small day-to-day changes that can eventually give you relief from such distress-provoking habits:

  • Take time each day to become reacquainted and more comfortable with your original personal goals, desires, expectations, and even with your own self-limitations.
  • Identify and learn to be comfortable, then content with your own ways of doing things, time frames and innate abilities.
  • Identify and make a plan to regularly achieve personal milestones that will authentically make you happy.
  • Learn to become familiar and even content with your true gifts, talents and abilities.
  • Learn to be patient and well-humored with yourself, remembering such life changing actions often take time, perseverance, determination and an ability to lighten up.
